London in 1773, to examine candidates for their service. The names of the members are not given in the letter which announces the appointment. The Gentleman s Magazine for July 1793 records the death in London, on 3rd July, aged 77, of " George Marten, Esq., 0f Limehouse, many years Examining Surgeon to the East India Company." Marten was probably one of the Board appointed in 1773. On Marten's death, Drs. Lorimer and Hunter took his place. Lorimer appears to have died soon after. Payments to his representatives are mentioned in 1794-95. Hunter held the post till his death, which took place in London on i9th January 1809.
